Field tests on various Italian highways (Sep–Nov 2023) confirmed that Akka2O CLEaRGrease® quickly disintegrates spilled hydrocarbons, restores road grip conditions, and helps eliminate odors and vapors—without leaving detectable residues after final rinsing.
The challenge: oil spills on roads are a safety and environmental risk
Fuel and lubricant spills on asphalt create immediate hazards: reduced traction, risky driving conditions, and potential contamination of nearby roadside ecosystems. A response product must work fast, reach hydrocarbons that penetrate the surface texture, and minimize secondary waste or long cleanup times.
Objective
This controlled test evaluated Akka2O CLEaRGrease® as an ecological formulation designed to disrupt and fragment hydrocarbons, with two main goals:
Rehabilitate the road surface after a spill
Restore safe driving conditions as quickly as possible
A key point under evaluation was CLEaRGrease®’s ability to act not only on surface contamination but also within deeper asphalt layers, where liquid fuels can migrate—an area where solid absorbents often cannot reach and may even stress the road structure over time.
Methodology: two spill scenarios, practical on-site workflow
The test simulated two common emergency events:
1) Diesel spill (2.5 liters)
Spill simulation: ~2.5 L diesel on asphalt
1st application: ~1000 ml CLEaRGrease® sprayed using a pressure tank
Removal: disintegrated hydrocarbon removed via liquid suction pump
2nd application: ~700 ml sprayed (pressure pump)
Final step: wash solution vacuumed with liquid vacuum pump until asphalt returned to pre-spill condition
Residue check: after partial drying, the area was rinsed with clean water to verify foam. No foam was observed, indicating absence of residual product.
2) Engine oil spill (2.0–3.0 liters)
Spill simulation: ~2.0–3.0 L engine oil
Application: ~1.5–2.0 L CLEaRGrease® sprayed using a pressure cylinder
Mechanical aid: brooming to improve blending and enhance the disintegrating action
Wastewater handling: vacuum removal, followed by additional high-pressure wash and final vacuuming
Results: restored safety, deep action, no toxic residues
Across the highway tests, CLEaRGrease® demonstrated:
Fast disintegration of diesel and engine oil on asphalt, supporting rapid return to safe traction conditions
Deep decontamination, reaching fuel/oil that penetrated into asphalt texture and deeper layers—helping protect long-term road integrity
No detectable residue after rinsing (no foam formation during the residue check)
Odor and vapor reduction, improving operational conditions during cleanup
The study also highlights that coverage and uniform spraying are key to maximizing performance, improving speed, and reducing working time—whether using a pressure washer or a canister system.
