Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a toxic, corrosive, irritant, asphyxiant, flammable, and extremely dangerous gas whose origin can be natural and anthropogenic. In the latter case, it is often produced in various industrial processes, including petroleum refining, natural gas processing, wastewater treatment, and during the decomposition of organic materials. Managing and reducing the concentration of H2S is critical to ensure safety, environmental protection and compliance with environmental regulations.

ARiAGuard®: the Akka2o product dedicated to H2S abatement is an extremely sustainable and economical solution to the problem. The active ingredients in the formulation can effectively microencapsulate, adsorb or neutralize H2S due to their unique chemical/physical properties. These compounds promote chemical reactions that convert H2S into less hazardous substances.

How it works

The effectiveness of ARiAGuard® in H2S abatement can be attributed to several mechanisms:

  1. Micellation: Active ingredients in the formulation in contact with H2S can form micelles (a tiny colloidal aggregate of molecules), which encapsulate it and remove it from environmental matrices.
  2. Stripping and catalysis of chemical reactions: Active ingredients in the formulation together with some surfactants can catalyze chemical reactions that transformH2Sinto less harmful substances, such as elemental sulfur or sulfates.
  3. Neutralization: The active ingredients in the formulation in contact with H2S capture all, or most, of the hydrogen sulfide through an irreversible, rapid and selective reaction, transforming it into non-hazardous insoluble salts.
  4. Bioremediation support: Active ingredients in the formulation can enhance bioremediation processes by making H2Smore bioavailable to microorganisms, facilitating its biodegradation.
